Mediacaster powers digital displays at QUAD
Monday, 25 August 2008 00:00
QUAD, the new centre for film and art in Derby, has installed a digital communication channel, powered by Isenzo Mediacaster.
Housed in an iconic £11m building, QUAD’s state of the art facilities include two art gallery spaces, two cinema screens, workshop spaces for community arts activities and a café bar to relax over a drink or snack. There is also a film editing suite, and a digital lab that will host courses for people looking to acquire new skills.

The network of LCD screens, which are situated throughout the building, provide multiple channels of information that are place and time sensitive: displays outside the cinemas show trailers for current and forthcoming attractions as well as a screening schedule; elsewhere in the venue, displays are used to advertise events and exhibitions as well as communications from QUAD to visitors. When there are major art and photography exhibitions in the centre, these screens double-up as a digital art gallery for moving image installations.
The centre operates a stand-alone implementation of Mediacaster Manager which delivers content to the screens via the centre’s LAN. This system enables QUAD’s own staff to update and scheduled channels as required.
QUAD is a partnership between Derby City Council, Arts Council England, EM Media, European Union, East Midlands Development Agency, Derby and Derbyshire Economic Partnership, Derby City Partnership, Derby Cityscape and The BFI.
