Center for High Performance Computing uses Isenzo Mediacaster for real-time information display.
The CSIR’s Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC) recently launched phase 2 of its hybrid supercomputer. Isenzo’s Mediacaster was selected by system integrator, Orange Business Services, to power the real-time display in the main control-room.
The long-anticipated launch of the CHPC's Phase 2 represents a milestone in the unfolding history of supercomputing in South Africa. The implementation of the Sun Microsystems’ hybrid architecture solution provides an estimated 27 teraflops of computing power and puts the system among the Top 500 supercomputers in the world.
Orange Business Services selected Isenzo’s Mediacaster software to power the real-time monitoring system for the main control room. The requirement was for a robust solution that could provide a visual display of system activity for system administrators, IT management and service providers.
“Mediacaster is the perfect solution for this project.” said Ashley Floris, director at Orange Business Services. “We investigated various systems and selected Isenzo’s software because it offered numerous functions running in a standalone environment, backed by implementation support and service.”
“The added value of the application is the ease with which the client can configure the screen to show various real-time data streams as required.” Floris added.
“We are delighted that Mediacaster was selected for this prestigious project” said Peter Robson, Isenzo CEO, “It’s not everyday that we are asked to implement a key component in a 27 teraflop computing environment, and we see this as a testament to the quality of our leading edge digital signage technology.”
The Minister of Science and Technology, Mrs Naledi Pandor, was the guest of honour at the launch, which was hosted by the CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research). The new supercomputer will be used by local and regional research communities that are grappling with challenges in the domains of climate change, energy security and human health.
Orange Business Services is a BEE-rated South African IT company with offices in Pretoria and Cape Town that provides IT and integration consultancy services to private and public sector clients.
