Point-of-Sale Display
A point-of-sale display (POS) is a specialised form of advertising medium that is placed at or near till points. This form of adverting is most commonly found in retail outlets and draws shopper’s attention to in-store promotions such as product specials, events or direct product advertising. The POS displays are either supplied by a third party advertiser or introduced into the store by the retailer.
The technologies around POS displays have evolved to include digital signage displays. These displays are typically plasma, LCD or LED screens that are placed at customer queue points or at the checkouts. Animated and engaging media draw customer’s attention in ways not possible through traditional means. POS digital signage is now making its way onto vending machines and till point table-tops. Dynamic digital signage is also extending the possibilities of POS displays by enabling them to respond to customer purchases through RFID and bar code scanners. The customer sale can be used as a trigger to play relevant content that positively reinforces their purchase.
